PROJECT
WITH CHEMISTRY FORWARD - development of competencies of wards of day-care centers through participation in didactic activities carried out at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdansk.
WORKSHOP #1
On November 14 and 21, 2018 and January 9, 2019, the Faculty of Chemistry held the first laboratory classes implemented under the project. They were hosted by wards of Tri-City institutions supporting schoolchildren. The meeting was conducted by employees of the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science and students preparing to become chemistry teachers. The workshop consisted of two parts. In the demonstration part of the workshop, young people watched spectacular experiments performed by students of the Teacher Module. During the second part of the workshop, students worked independently following the prepared instructions. While performing the experiments, they filled out worksheets recording their observations and conclusions.
WORKSHOP #2
On January 14, 16 and 23, 2019, the Faculty of Chemistry held the second workshop implemented as part of the project. Their course and content were prepared by the staff of the Department of Theoretical Chemistry and the Department of Environmental Technology. The classes consisted of two parts. In the first, titled "Molecular modeling", the students, using the appropriate computer program, created molecules, while in the second, titled "Molecular modeling. "Modeling an Environmentally Friendly City," they learned about modern solutions and technologies that are used in cities considered to care about the environment and its inhabitants.
WORKSHOP #3
On March 20, 25 and 27, 2019, the Faculty of Chemistry held its third laboratory class for six groups of students. The theme was the study of food. The workshops were conducted by the staff of the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science. Supporting persons were doctoral students of the Faculty of Chemistry and students preparing to become chemistry teachers.
WORKSHOP #4
The fourth workshop organized by the project was held in May and June 2019. The laboratory classes were attended by wards of all the establishments that signed up for the project. The theme of the meeting was the chemistry of cosmetics and cleaning products. The students, under the guidance of the staff of the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, as well as doctoral and undergraduate students, created their own cosmetic agents, fragrances and washing powders.
WORKSHOP #5
In June and September 2019, the fifth and final workshop organized under the project was held. The laboratory classes were attended by wards of all the establishments that signed up for the project. During these classes, the students, using their skills acquired in previous classes, planned and carried out chemical experiments. They were supervised by employees of the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, as well as PhD students and students of the Faculty of Chemistry.
