About us
The Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk was established in 1991, although its beginnings date back to 1945, when the newly established Pedagogium started educating teachers in the field of chemistry.
Currently, the faculty consists of 12 departments, with 32 research laboratories and the Teaching and Popularization of Science Team.
The Faculty is authorized to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in the field of exact and natural sciences in the discipline of chemistry.
Since 2013, the Faculty has been housed in a new seat with an area of 29,000 m2, located on the Oliwa campus, which is today one of the most modern research and teaching facilities in Europe. The building of the Faculty of Chemistry houses 24 student laboratories, a technology hall, 190 research laboratories and a complex of modern auditoriums.
The Faculty employs over 100 research and teaching staff, including 19 titular professors, 27 university professors, 16 habilitated doctors, 70 doctors, 27 assistants with a master's degree, as well as 80 research and technical, technical and administrative employees.
The main areas of research activity of the Faculty of Chemistry concern: peptide chemistry and biochemistry, chemical and environmental analytics, computational chemistry, organic and inorganic physicochemistry, materials chemistry, sugar chemistry and environmental chemistry. A significant contribution to the scientific achievements was made by research conducted by doctoral students. Participation in research achievements resulting from international (including the USA, Germany, Japan, Sweden) and national cooperation is also important. The world-class level of scientific research is possible thanks to the collected modern equipment. The results of research conducted at the faculty are reflected in numerous publications from the so-called Philadelphia list.
The Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk is one of the most dynamic academic centers conducting research and education in the field of chemistry and environmental protection both in Poland and abroad. Faculty employees obtain funds from national and international science funding institutions for the implementation of their research. The achievement of the faculty is recognized by the highest scientific category A assigned to it.
The proof of recognition for the high quality of education provided at the Faculty are: (1) outstanding institutional accreditation of the Polish Accreditation Committee, (2) positive accreditation of the Polish Accreditation Committee for both majors run by the Faculty, (3) distinguished accreditation of the UKA for both majors run by the Faculty, (4) outstanding accreditation of European (ECTN) in the field of professional titles eurobachelor and euromaster and (5) distinctive accreditation of student laboratories.
